Illustrator Q&A W/ Cory Andre Byrd On Flex "A Modern Marvel!"

High Voltage Comics is proud to say that we recently had the opportunity to sit down and interview Cory Andre Byrd who is the illustrator for Flex "A Modern Marvel!" 1. What do you think makes this comic stand out?

What makes this comic stand out is that it focuses on a semi real life experience from a real persons fantasy as a super hero. Most of the time superheroes are born from imagination, this story is a mixture of both.

2.Tell us a little about your background in Comics?

I published my first book The Shadow Knight in early 2000. After that i published Tooth and Nail 1-6, Oni, The Shadow Knight #0 and Raven’s Macabre vol 1 & 2. Along with these i’ve worked with other comic book publishers, Legacy Comix and High Voltage Comics.

3. What do you feel this comic depicts well of Hispanic culture and family life?

I think it touches a little on the Hispanic culture. Possibly in future issues it could further elaborate on the culture.

4. Why do you think viewers will enjoy this book?

I think the comic is a fun origin story, with energetic art that will keep the reader engaged.

5. What does this book mean to you?

The book to me was a new experience, which always means a lot. Working on something besides my own creations can be a challenge but also a learning process to help me grow.

6. What are some of your favorite Comics and Movies/Tv Shows?

My favorite US comics are X-Men but lately I have digging more into Indie comics and manga such as Something is Killing the Children and Lone Wolf and Cub. As far as TV and movies, my top is the X-Files, Star Wars (original) and Inception.

7. Any comments you would like to say to the viewers reading this interview?

If anyone out there who is a creator, artist, writer etc. pursue your goals and don’t give up on your dreams! It can be a bumpy road but that’s what makes it worth it in the end! God bless!
