Q&A With Mighty Man Of God "Counting My Blessings Illustrator Chris Booth!

Updated: Jun 16

We have the honor of interviewing Chris Booth, known for his work on countless books on the Indie Comic Book scene.

1. What do you think makes this comic stand out?

What makes this comic stand out is that it is a redemption arc. It shows that even when you are at your lowest there is still a path towards salvation that can be offered to you. The question isn't whether or not you will be offered salvation, the question is are you brave enough to walk the path towards salvation.

2. Tell us a little about your background in Comics?

I've been working professionally in comics for the past five years though my first published work was over 15 years ago for Atomic Basement Comics, on a book called Z-Blade and later Marko Darc. Since returning I've been drawing for both Legacy Comix, Byrd's Eye View Comics, and now High Voltage Comics.

I am mostly self taught, though I have taken a handful of drawing classes over the years and own almost every "how to draw comics" book on the market.

I've been drawing comics for most of my life but only recently really tried to make a go at being a penciler and inker.

3. What do you feel this comic depicts well?

The redemption and salvation arc.

4. Why do you think viewers will enjoy this book?

I think this book as a good message with a gritty edge.

5. What does this book mean to you?

One my influences as an artist is Steve Dillon, this comic is my love letter to Steve Dillon.

6. What are some of your favorite Comics and Movies/Tv Shows?

For comics, I am a big fan of 60's Fantastic Four and Spiderman, 70's Ghost Rider and Hulk, Batman of any era, Superman of most eras but for me the two best on-going series ever published are Planetary and Preacher.

In terms of books, you can't go wrong with anything by Vonnegut.

Music - Portishead, Pink Floyd, and Nils Frahm.

TV - The Larry Sanders Show.

Film - Back to the Future and Batman '89.

7. Any comments you would like to say to the viewers reading this interview?

Comics is a dying industry if you let be a dying industry. If you love comics, buy more comics, buy from indie artists and companies. Create comics, trade comics. Buy real comics, digital is great and all but have you held a Peter Parker the Spectacular Spiderman book from the 80's, the first appearance of Sabertooth in a Spidy comic? Have you smelled that book? Seen where you dog-eared it because when you were 10 you didn't know about collecting you just wanted to make sure you didn't lose your place? Comics are a living breathing time machine to your past, to our past. Don't let it die!
